Kenya's Olympic Gold!!!

With just a week before arriving in Kenya, I'm so excited that Kenyan runner Wanjiru just won an Olympic gold medal for the male marathon and even broke a world record. Seriously 2 hours 6 minutes and 32 seconds is absolutely amazing!!! Can't wait to see how or if the news is being received throughout Kenya's various regions, and maybe I'll try a little running myself - ha ha ha

The Date is Slowly Approaching... 10 Days Away

With only a little over a week until I depart for Kenya, the pressure to be ready has dramatically increased. However, despite needing to wrap up packing and seeing people, I have finally established my post study abroad plans. From December 23rd to February 1st, I will travel to Mali in order to visit my sister (Meg) who is currently a Peace Corps volunteer just outside of Bamako. While this will decrease my time in East Africa, I am truly excited to take a month to explore the West coast of this amazing continent. I'm particularly excited by the prospect of riding a camel in Timbuktu, which Meg has laughingly promised we will do!!! But until then I must continue packing and dreaming of my return to East Africa...

The Inevitable Creation of a Blog

Despite resisting many forms of internet technology as unnecessary or slightly creepy for many years, I am creating this blog in an effort avoid spending hours and countless kSH at internet cafes across East Africa during my upcoming fall in Kenya and Tanzania. While I will recall upon the numerous hours spent in the two internet cafes at Adams Arcade during the fall of 2006 fondly, I'm really hoping that this will allow me to share my adventures more completely with the various people I care about across the United States. Thus, I hope you will all view this as a forum for me to share my stories while continuing to utilize email as a form of two way communication, because I still want to know how you are all doing during your next few months. So with that I wish you all a good final few weeks of summer and I'll start posting closer to my departure date. Kwaheri!!!
